How To Get a Medical Marijuana Prescription in Texas

Getting a medical marijuana prescription may seem overwhelming, but Texas Original has designed a simple process to help eligible patients access treatment.

Unlike many other medical cannabis states, Texas does not issue medical marijuana cards. Instead, physicians prescribe medical cannabis directly through the Texas Compassionate Use Program. Your physician will determine the appropriate formulation, dosage, and product based on your medical condition and symptoms.

Qualifying Conditions for Medical Marijuana

Texas established the Compassionate Use Program in 2015. Initially, only patients with epilepsy qualified. In 2019, the program expanded to include more than 100 qualifying conditions, including autism, multiple sclerosis, and spasticity. During the 2021 legislative session, House Bill 1535 further expanded eligibility to include all cancer diagnoses and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Some qualifying conditions include:

Peripheral neuropathy
Spasticity
Autism
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Cancer
Epilepsy and other seizure disorders
Multiple sclerosis (MS)
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
Incurable neurodegenerative diseases

Medical Marijuana Prescription Pickup or Delivery

Texas Original offers one of the largest distribution networks among licensed providers in Texas, with multiple pickup locations throughout the state.

Patients who are able to travel are encouraged to use pickup locations, while home delivery is available for patients who are unable to drive or leave their homes. If you’re unable to pick up your medication, call us to find out whether you qualify for home delivery.
